why make things simple when they could be complicated?

some people turn life into a really simple thing.
you are born.
you get educated.
you get a job.
you marry someone.
you start a family.
you make money.
you buy things.
you die.

i've come to realize it's not that simple. i've also come to realize that that's an awful definition of life, though it's kinda true.

people forget to include the mistakes.
the person you should have never talked to.
the person you should have talked to more.
the day you should have stayed in bed.
the day you forgot to get out of bed.
the things you shouldn't have said.
the things you should have said.
the place you shouldn't have gone.
and, of course, the place you should have gone.
the frowns.
the tears.

needless to say, all of these little things add up. they're obstacles.
but then again, people also forget to toss in the pleasant occurrences.

that time the sun shone on your face.
the day you smiled so much your cheeks hurt.
that person you met at the right time and at the right place.
that trip you took that you'll never forget.
that time you got lost and it ended up being perfect.
that person you tell everything and anything to.
those moments when you get so lost that you've never felt so right.
those accomplishments.
those awards.
those compliments.
those smiles.
those laughs.

so you have all the regular things you're supposed to do in life. those take up time. and then you have mistakes that take up time. your only wish, then, should be to save enough time for the pleasurable moments. the rare, yet amazing times in life. forget the job or the money, if you can replace it with something or someone worth so much more.
